Ten days on the ‘island of the gods’ and in the Flores archipelago — the Besakih temple, Mount Batur, the Komodo dragons, and snorkelling off Pink Beach.

Itinerary

Day 1

Athens / Thessaloniki – Bali

We gather at the airport and fly to Bali via a connecting airport, arriving the next day.

Day 2

Arrival on Bali

We land on the island of the gods, with its smiling people, emerald rice terraces and enchanting beaches. Transfer to the hotel, and rest.

Day 3

Eastern Bali: Kertha Gosa, Tenganan & Besakih

A full-day excursion to the small towns of Gianyar and Klungkung, visiting Kertha Gosa, an 18th-century court of justice. We reach Tenganan, the island's oldest village and home of the Aga people, whose dialect and architecture differ from the rest of Bali. We continue to Besakih, the largest Hindu temple and ‘the mother of all temples’.

Day 4

Inland: the Barong dance, Tirta Empul & Kintamani

A full-day excursion inland. In a nearby village we watch the sacred Barong dance, a performance of music, movement and monsters. Then the holy spring at the Tirta Empul temple, the woodcarving village of Mas, and mountain Kintamani, looking out over the lake and Mount Batur.

Day 5

Bali – the Flores archipelago (Labuan Bajo)

Transfer to the airport for the domestic flight to Labuan Bajo, at the western end of Flores.

Day 6

Komodo Island – Pink Beach – Rinca Island

We sail early for Komodo Island. A walk with a specialist local ranger brings us to the famous Komodo dragons. Snorkelling off Pink Beach follows, and a visit to Rinca Island.

Day 7

Labuan Bajo – Bali

Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Bali. On arrival, transfer to the hotel and overnight.

Day 8

The Batuan temple, Ubud & the monkey forest

First the Hindu temple of Batuan, built in 1020, with its ancient and singular statues. We continue into central Ubud to visit the Ubud Royal Family House, the last home of the royal family, haggle in the local market, and end at the protected sacred monkey forest.

A free day on Bali

A free day to enjoy the island as you please — the beach, a spa, or the markets.

Bali – Athens / Thessaloniki

After breakfast, on to the airport and the return flight via a connecting airport. We land in Greece the following day.

  • Economy-class flights with Qatar, Etihad or Juneyao from Athens, and with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul from Thessaloniki
